Illegal valet parking services at RexKL

I met Shin, the architect/founder of renewed RexKL mansion. First and foremost, I like to thank Shin and his friends for the transformation of old Rex Cinema into a hipster joint today. It is a privately funded project and becomes one of the latest attraction at Chinatown area.

The venue was awarded with ThinkCity fundings to beautify the surrounding area with goal to enhance the liveability, sustainability, and inclusivity of cities.

However, Shin’s project was stalled due to few issues, which were why me and Carmen Leong together with Bing Hong of MP Bukit Bintang office conducted site visit at RexKL few days back.

Besides drainages, Shin’s biggest challenge is the unauthorised valet parking which occupy exactly the same alley Shin supposed to beautify the vicinity. It was part of the ThinkCity initiative for Jalan Sultan.

According to investigation, the parking service was not recognized by DBKL at all. There are already many incidents that this illegal operator always in confrontation with RexKL patrons over parking charges.

For me, this intimidation is not acceptable. RexKL is one of tourism destination. No matter how they termed it, either valet parking or parking services, illegally taking parking charges without authority knowledge is still against the law.

I have requested DBKL enforcement team to investigate this without fear.
